Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative said the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
