'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from 25 yards, and the defender immediately converted the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This capped an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a fourth-round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the City players who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that growth for club and country, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I thought I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
